If you are able, please give blood to help. Call 13 14 95.

The Red Cross website for accepting $$ donations is running very slowly but it is working eventually... you can donate money online or call 1800 811 700.

Wildlife Victoria is also accepting donations to help its volunteers assist the native animals which have been affected.

What a terrible weekend.

Understandably the focus has been on the human loss in this dire situation but the loss is even greater for our wildlife. Their already dwindling habitat and drought ravaged food supplies are now decimated. This is the sort of event that can literally spell extinction for species of our unique fauna.

Money seems so empty. Goods barely any better. But what more can we do?

Money is actually a hell of a lot easier to manage than goods, as goods require sorting and distribution on a whole nother level.

I read that they evacuated Healesville Sanctuary and I have to sit and idly wonder about the logistics of evacuating a zoo....

Time, in the weeks to come, might be quite useful. Maybe volunteer to head up and help once the fires are out.
