Do your parents have room for another cow? I'm used to the females being kept for breeding and the males being the meat-calves.
If she gets a name, it may be a lost cause unless your parents have experience with this. It's kinda like redshirts with surnames - naming them seems to be a near-guarantee of a long and happy life... or at least a bigger part in the plot!
